Memorial at St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate.
He had two brothers who served during the War. Arthur A. served in the American Army as a Private, promoted to Serjeant, and John R. served as a Private in The Rifle Brigade. Both survived the War.

Two of his brothers served in the War. William served in India and Mesopotamia as a Private in The Hampshire Regiment and was taken prisoner by Turks in May 1916. Edward served in France with The Northumberland Fusiliers, was commisioned, and was wounded in February 1915 and August 1916. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal 1915, the Military Cross 1916 and the Médaille Militaire 1914. They both survived the War.

Enlisted in 1898 at Gosport and served in the Boer War where he became a POW (released 10 December 1899 at Stormberg) and wounded 10 December 1901 near Wepener. Served in France during the First World War and was promoted to Serjeant Major. Killed in Action 17 February 1917. Buried at Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt, Somme, France (GR IV. D. 30.). Memorial at St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate.
He had two brothers who served during the War. Arthur A. served in the American Army as a Private, promoted to Serjeant, and John R. served as a Private in The Rifle Brigade. Both survived the War.

Enlisted in London in January 1915 and served in Salonica, France and Flanders. Wounded in 1916. Killed in Action 27 July 1917. Buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium (GR V. A. 28.). Memorial at Holy Trinity.
Two of his brothers served in the War. William served in India and Mesopotamia as a Private in The Hampshire Regiment and was taken prisoner by Turks in May 1916. Edward served in France with The Northumberland Fusiliers, was commisioned, and was wounded in February 1915 and August 1916. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal 1915, the Military Cross 1916 and the Médaille Militaire 1914. They both survived the War.

Served with the Indian Expeditionary Force in the Persian Gulf and went through the siege of Kut. Mentioned in Despatches. Taken prisoner by Turks and died of typhus 26 April 1918 at Nisibin, Turkey. In 1911 a Captain, 2nd Battalion The Queen's Regiment of Infantry C and G Companies, Gibraltar. Served in Belgium in the War and was Mentioned in Despatches in 1915. Killed in Action 19 October 1914. The Battalion diary states that Captain Lewis was shot in the head, and most of his party killed, while advancing on buildings held by Germans in the town of Ledeghem. Buried in Ledeghem Military Cemetery, Ledeghem, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium (GR B. 16.). Memorials at Christ Church and St Thomas’s.

Served on the High Seas and was Killed in Action 29 February 1916 in the North Sea aboard the Alcantara, an armed merchant cruiser, among the 67 ratings and two officers who lost their lives, when they were caught out by the Rena, in fact the armed surface raider Greif.
