Therefore also referred to as son-in-law of Mrs E A Mills of 22, Bar End, Winchester. Enlisted in 1888 and served in the Boer (South African) War as a Serjeant in 6 Coy Army Service Corps. Commissioned 23.1.1915. Awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, and the Médaille Militaire (France). Served at Gallipoli (Dardanelles). Killed in Action 14 July 1915. Buried at Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Turkey (GR A. 45.). Memorials at All Saints and Chilcomb.

He enlisted in 1914 (WWSR) or more likely 13 March 1916 (Canadian attestation papers) and served in France. The Toronto Star states that ‘he went overseas with a Peel County battalion’. Died of Wounds10 April 1917 at Vimy Ridge. Buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, Pas de Calais, France (GR IV. A. 3.). Memorial at St Peter Chesil.
