The discrepancy in the dates of death of 30 November and 1 December and could relate to the day the submarine sailed and the following day when it struck a mine. Became part of the 15th Bn The Hampshire Regiment in September 1917 when C squadron the Hampshire Yeomanry amalgamated with The 15th (Service) Bn The Hampshire Regiment, having been dismounted the previous month and trained as infantry. Served on the Western Front, was wounded in 1917 and Died of Wounds on 14 October 1918 shortly after being brought in to the 15th CheshireAid post. He therefore died in the 15th (Service) Bn (2nd Portsmouth). Buried in Dadizeele New British Cemetery, Moorslede, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium (GR I. D. 25.). Memorials at St John the Baptist.

The 7th Battalion was one of the first Service battalions of Lord Kitchener's New Army to be formed. The Battalion landed at Boulogne on 1 June 1915. Killed in Action on the 11 September 1915 just prior to the Battle of Loos. Buried at Houplines Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France (GR II. A. 15.). Memorial at St Thomas’s.

Enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1904 and served with the Grand Fleet on a variety of ships HMS Agincourt, Argonaut, Hindustan and Natal and Shore Establishments (Excellent, Tamar, Victory). In 1910 he married Harriet Cox in Brighton, Sussex. In 1911 he was aged 24 serving at Hong Kong. Passed Petty Officer training in the Spring of 1912 while serving on HMS Tamar. Killed in Action on 1 June 1916 during the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of the War, while serving on HMS Ardent which was shelled by German ships and sunk by SMS Westfalen with the loss of 73 men. Buried at Fredrikstad Military Cemetery, Norway, in the small war plot. Memorial at Holy Trinity as Albert T. Axe.

Son of John and Eliza Andrews. Married Mary Louise Woodmore in 1895 and they settled at 41, North Walls. In 1911 William and Mary had five children, one son and four daughters. William John enlisted in the Royal Artillery in February 1888 aged 18. A Carman in 1911. In September 1914 he re-enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery at Winchester. Served on the Western Front as a Gunner. Wounded on 3 December 1914 he Died of Wounds the next day. Buried in Merville Communal Cemetery, Nord, France (GR I. K. 19.). Memorials at St John the Baptist and the Primitive Methodist Chapel in Parchment Street.
Their son William George served in the Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Air Force and survived the war.

Son of Edwin and Amelia Aslett, of 38, St Catherine's Road. An Errand Boy for a local Chemist in 1911. Enlisted in August 1914 in the Royal Garrison Artillery at Winchester. Served on the Western Front, in France and Belgium. Wounded in May 1915 he was Killed in Action on 21 March 1918. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France (PR Bay 1). Memorial at All Saints and Chilcomb.

Attwood was the son of Mr and Mrs C. Attwood, of 10, Staple Garden. In 1911 he was an Errand Boy, aged 17, one of six children. Enlisted in The Royal Sussex Regiment at Brighton in August 1914 and served in France with the British Expeditionary Force. The 7th Battalion was one of the first Service battalions of Lord Kitchener's New Army to be formed. The Battalion landed at Boulogne on 1 June 1915. Killed in Action on the 11 September 1915 just prior to the Battle of Loos. Buried at Houplines Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France (GR II. A. 15.). Memorial at St Thomas’s.
His brother Albert served in The HampshireRegimentand in India and Mesopotamia and Percy served in the Royal Navy, The Hampshire Regiment and Royal Engineers in Italy and survived the War.

Eldest son of Charles and Jessie Avery, of 21, Canon Street. In 1911 he was a Draper’s Errand Boy aged 14. Enlisted at Winchester in The Hampshire Regiment, aged 18 in September 1914. Served in Mesopotamia with the 1st/4th Battalion and was Killed in Action at the Battle of Um El Hanna on 21 January 1916. Commemorated on Basra Memorial, Iraq (PR 21 and 63.). Memorial at St Michael's.
He had a younger brother, Percy Albert, who served in The Hampshire Regiment, won the Meritorious Service Medal, the Médaille Militaire and survived the War.

One of seven children of Henry John and Caroline Axe. Born 7 April 1886. In 1901 he was a Errand Boy aged 14. Enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1904 and served with the Grand Fleet on a variety of ships HMS Agincourt, Argonaut, Hindustan and Natal and Shore Establishments (Excellent, Tamar, Victory). In 1910 he married Harriet Cox in Brighton, Sussex. In 1911 he was aged 24 serving at Hong Kong. Passed Petty Officer training in the Spring of 1912 while serving on HMS Tamar. Killed in Action on 1 June 1916 during the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of the War, while serving on HMS Ardent which was shelled by German ships and sunk by SMS Westfalen with the loss of 73 men. Buried at Fredrikstad Military Cemetery, Norway, in the small war plot. Memorial at Holy Trinity as Albert T. Axe.
